From a hybridizer perspective, what crosses have you seen that you would consider the least likely to ever happen? As in the odds against the cross working were incredibly slim. (or technically impossible since we know how nature likes to throw impossible out of the window) Just curious to see what comes from this.

Well there are plenty of really nice aneuploid phals out there that of course won't breed.. and harlequins can be reluctant as pollen parents. I've been trying to make a cross with Ever-spring king as the pollen parent, so far 8 attempts and no pods so I'd be pretty impressed to see that work. Golden Emporer "Sweet" is a really nice yellow with round flowers that are very fade resistant but it's anuploid. There are some nice yellows out there that are probably just as good but Golden Emperer is concolor with absoultly no marks or spots so it would be nice if that would breed. Baldan's Kaleidoscope has great flower shape and size but so far all of the registered hybrids are pod parent so it would be amazing to see it as a pollen parent too. Not sure why this is the case but perhaps the pollen is not viable?

OK, I will add my odd ball crosses here and where they have gotten to.

Phaius x Spathoglottis (in flask now awaiting germination - sadly I took it to a lab and, well, I have nothing good to say about them now - I live in hope) This cross was done in the 1960s with P. Tankervillae and a Spth species. I am using P. Tankervillae and a 4N yellow Spathoglottis

Spathoglottis (PP) x Grammatophyllum hyb (Pollen) - in pod and growing rapidly by the day (3/4 mature).

Jumbo Orchids in Taiwan is doing some odd work in the Cymbidium alliance with Grammatophyllum, Ansellia, Cymbidiums, Catasetum etc. A few pics are hiding in there Chinese part of their website. ????????

I'd love to see these

Ctmds. Jumbo Ruby X Gram. scriptum
Ctsm. Jumbo Pearl X Aslla. gigantea
Cyc . Jumbo Dragon X Aslla. gigantea (there are pics if you look)
Cyc. Jumbo Dragon X Gram. scriptum
Cycnoches Jumbo Dragon X Grammatophyllum martae
Cymbidium x Grammangis
Eulophia guineensis X Grammangis spectabilis

I encouraged a Thai friend to do some work in this area. Waiting to see if the pods mature.

Brett
