Ed - perhaps it died from separation anxiety
I wouldn't survive long if my babies were torn from me ...

H - leave that baby be

Wow, that's going to be a pretty cool sight when they open up. I had a phal keiki bloom, but it was just a single bud, not a full spike like yours.

Just repeating what everybody else has been saying. Leave it! Personally, I love the look of phals with blooming keikeis!

I find that a lot of the plant's strength is used up in flower production so I will have to disagree with most about leaving it alone. Phals do not balk a bit about being re-potted so I would remove the keiki and pot it in loose sphagnum until it has finished blooming and then re-pot later, after blooming, if sphagnum is not your choice of growing medium.

I had a large Phal recently that was looking pretty bad when I discovered that the only good roots were those out of the pot. The leaves were starting to wilt very badly. I took it out of it's container, cut off all of the dead roots, and potted in loose sphagnum. In a few days the leaves were all plump and turgid and the flowers were not affected at all.

When those air roots on your keiki get into some damp sphagnum they are going to love it.

Well, this is getting very intense! What you all should know is the parent plant has a dreaded disease Yes, crown rot. That is the reason for the keiki growth; I used kieki paste to promote the growth. While the parent has great roots and what leaves remain are firm, we all know it is just a matter of time before it withers and dies. I continue to mist the air roots and I guess for now I'll leave it but I respect what all of you have advised and for now I'll do the "wait and see" routine. Pics to come.... soon I trust!

That is so cool looking that if it does not harm the mother, why would you cut it off? Leave it!!

Can't wait to see the blooms! Howard
Nice to know about the Keikie paste & Thanks for taking the decision of the keeping keikies on for now for all to see in bloom...you can then repot as Jerry (Leisurely) says above....
Merci!

Al

[EDIT]
I didn't mean for this post to sound so cold......
Doc would/does know it's meaning.
He gave me this plant last year and asked about it a few weeks ago. At that time it wasn't doing anything so I was surprised to find two spikes on it last week.
