Default Den. bellatulum x lowii not establishing and dropping leaves

Hi everybody, I'm having a little trouble with my new Den. bellatulum x lowii. I got it bare-root on Dec. 21 at my local orchid society's monthly meeting with a two or three leaves starting to turn yellow and the older pseudobulbs a little wrinkled, but otherwise in good condition.

When I brought it home, I stuck it in a 1 inch clay pot. The mix was fine grade fir bark with a little live moss mixed in. For a little while I had it in a SW facing window and misted it daily until about a week ago when I got my DIY orchidarium up and running and put it in there. Through all this, the only thing I have seen my 'chid do is sit there and have leaves gradually turn yellow (however, the new growths have not dropped any leaves) and pull them off as soon as they're "ripe".

Today I decided enough is enough, I've got to do something. I gently took it out of its pot to see if any roots had formed at all, and to my disappointment, no green tips were to be found. The plant wobbled in roughly half, so I separated it into two smaller pieces along that line. One division has two new growths, the other only one. I put them both in 1 inch pots (after trimming all the dead roots) with some fine-grade fir bark in the bottom and moss at the top (paper towel instead of moss in one, as I'd run out).

The first picture shows the plants before trimming the roots, the second after. The third shows them both potted. (All the string is to keep them from wobbleing.)

Both are now in my orchidarium (I moistened the medium first), enjoying good light and approx 80% humidity.

My question is this, does anyone have any suggestions as to anything else I should do for them?

Thanks for any help,
-Joseph

You have what looks to be a great cross!

It has been my experience with Den's that they get pouty when they are moved from one location to another not to mention from one climate to another....

I wouldn't worry too much right now, just give them the best conditions possible and wait...bummer, huh? I had one drop every leaf it had (4 canes)...looked like poop for a couple of months and then it put up two new canes that were bigger than the original four...I hoping for blooms this spring/summer.

Hope this helps...keep us posted!

Thanks for the encouraging words, CoolPhrog. If they get pouty when moving from one location to another, then this one'll throw a fit. I got it from our guest speeker who came all the way up from California... talk about a change in climate! In the meantime like you said I'll try to keep it happy and stick it out.
