I actually have about 1500 Rhynchostylis plants of different varieties at about the same size. I just have them in pots with holes. They are just wired in to hold them until they are sited. Absolutely nothing in the pot other than the plant and a piece of wire to hold the plant in place.
Hey there. My post is currently in the phalaenopsis alliance section. It's on the first page.
I bought some vanda baskets as Home Depot. They are reasonably priced. However, the vanda basket I purchased from Kelly's korner orchid supplies (online store) is of much better quality. It's much more sturdier and I think the wood is better.
Rogerman, I think the humidity in the green house is much higher then in my house. Do not you think if I put such small plants in baskets with out anything roots might dry out?
Go with the basket. Yes, they will dry out - that's what they like. Water daily - dry off rapidly. Size doesn't matter so much, especially if you're potting them up bare root. The basket or pot really just holds the plant in place - hanging on a wire does the same thing. It's really just personal preference. I like the look of the baskets.

I think more than likely, everything here has higher humidity. It doesn't matter whether or not if it is in a greenhouse or not..... The only reason why plants here are grown in a greenhouse is to keep the blistering sun off them....... As for roots drying out, my plants live in about 95-100F most of the time and they grow well. Just keep watering them.
At the moment it is the cool season and i'm only getting 70-90 degrees which is quite nice.
