Can i ask someone dose keiki pro really work and is it something i can make myself if it works.

I have tried it and it worked for me. I was skeptical also. Tried it on 2 Phals and both have 2 small keiki's on them

Yep! It works! I have used it on multiple parts of orchids, it isn't just for keiki's! I love the stuff...and a little goes a long way!

Becca, what else do you use it for? I have some but I never use it because I have enough keikis!!!!!

I used it and i got heaps of what i think were keikis, but they turned into big weird bulbs and after a couple of months i gave up on them and chopped off the stalk to give the plant a rest. I think they would have turned into keikis if i'd left them though.

If you make it yourself you need BAP, a plant hormone you might be able to order from a chem. supply store, parrafin oil, lanoline, and a little antifungal. I think that's basically all keiki paste is.

But since you use so little normally, might as well just buy some, it will last you a long time.

Susie: You can use it to coax new growths from dormant eyes at the base of bulbs as well, like in Dendrobiums and Cattleyas etc.

I read a posting on another board about boiling willow branches and allowing the mix to "brew" overnight and the resulting liquid was like a rooting hormone, but I don't know if it is the same as "Keiki-Pro" and other keiki producing products. I have used KiekiGrow Plus. It is a lanolin based hormone product that I purchased from the manufacturer in Canada. Like so many things in life, timing is everything. So it is with using these hormone products. If don't apply them at the right time they don't produce the desired results. This has been MY experience; if applied too soon after flowering the nodal bud forms a new spike and not a keiki. I have had good results after some experimentation.....my primary reason for using this homone product is to save plants that have gotten crown rot. And I agree with UnderG about stimulating the eyes of catts.

Like Undergrounder mentioned earlier, I have used it to coax new growths from dormant eyes at the base of bulbs Dendrobiums and Cattleyas. Instead of using the Keiki Pro in it's concentrated for as recommended for keiki's, you mix a few drops with I think an ounce or two of water and spray it on the dormant eyes. I think the instructions said you could also use it on the roots and other parts in the same fashion, depending on the results you are looking for. Be sure to use the mixture on dormant eyes and not the concentrated form as I think I have killed a couple of dormant eyes and roots while experimenting, but maybe it was just a coincidence...lol.

Ye, Ray, please tell us your feeling about the difference(s) between Keiki-Pro and KeikiGrow Plus and/or simialr products. This is very interesting to me because I'd like to experiment and ya' can't do that without some education, first.
