Magnus my ancestorts on my grandmothers side are Swedish . I have often wondered why some of my family including myself, are so rotund ,until I saw pics of our swedish family and they all look like beach balls ! So nowadays we call it the swedish connection when anyone asks.

C'mon folks here I am trying to coax myths out of you , because trying to watch TV tonight is useless all the films are repeats and the news is all about the elections in the States and the credit crunch.... It is enough to make you want to jump off something............... no not really

Ah well, let me me have one for the road after that I will most probably fall off my perch and have to crawl to bed,
OOh I should not have said that so loudly they are not supposed to know that Granpa likes that stuff in the brown bottle so I can only have some after 10 at night, or I will have to sleep with the dog outside for a few days ,
Fool what am I saying I'M TYPING THIS!!!

well... here we go with one I had never heard before, until the old lady living downstairs came up to bring some post for me (a box with orchids!)... I kindly invited her to come in and have a cup of coffee and see all my plants (she was curious about the orchids in the box)...

so, there she was... and said: "Dr. Aguiar!!" (very respectful - as usual for an old swiss-german lady) then she looked again at my plants and "Sr. Aguiar... I mean, Dr. Aguiar... Are you nut!!???? How can you have so many orchids in your apartment!!?? Don't you know that orchids are the most dangerous plants to be kept in the houses? At night, when there is no light on, they start 'sucking' (she really used the word 'sucking') the oxygen out of the air and emit some air toxins to protect themselves!! That's the reason why they are prohibited in Swiss hospital!!"

After that she was so nervous and left my apartment without having touched her coffee...

Since a couple of months I have been tempted to go to the hospital and ask if indeed orchids are prohibited there... (nothing can surprise me anymore!)... but I have not had the guts to go and ask (and probably have the whole hospital laughing at me... (nothing can surprise me anymore! )...

Ramon, I heard the the same thing, but about plants in general. There's an old wives tale in France that says that having plants in your bedroom at night is dangerous since they take in O2 and release CO2. There are stories of people being suffocated/CO2 poisoned by their plants that way! I have all 30 of my babies in my room whe I sleep(I have a studio student room), and I'm alive and well!

Only root beer? I just had some nice Guinness beers at the pub tonight. Actually, I think I had a few too many, I'm seeing 3 computer screens and nearly fell off my bike on the way home. Time to call it a night!
