well... here we go with one I had never heard before, until the old lady living downstairs came up to bring some post for me (a box with orchids!)... I kindly invited her to come in and have a cup of coffee and see all my plants (she was curious about the orchids in the box)...
so, there she was... and said: "Dr. Aguiar!!" (very respectful - as usual for an old swiss-german lady) then she looked again at my plants and "Sr. Aguiar... I mean, Dr. Aguiar... Are you nut!!???? How can you have so many orchids in your apartment!!?? Don't you know that orchids are the most dangerous plants to be kept in the houses? At night, when there is no light on, they start 'sucking' (she really used the word 'sucking') the oxygen out of the air and emit some air toxins to protect themselves!! That's the reason why they are prohibited in Swiss hospital!!"
After that she was so nervous and left my apartment without having touched her coffee...
Since a couple of months I have been tempted to go to the hospital and ask if indeed orchids are prohibited there... (nothing can surprise me anymore!)... but I have not had the guts to go and ask (and probably have the whole hospital laughing at me... (nothing can surprise me anymore!
)...
