Paph Pinnocchio - Orchid Board

This is the first bloom for me on this plant. I have another Pinnocchio and the flower wasn't all deformed as this one is.....I'm posting here because I'd like some input as to why. I have been using SuperThrive and Hormex and maybe that has done it to this otherwise beautiful flower. Thanks

Howard, you know I really don't know. Since this is a first bloom for this plant, it could be that it's just a poor plant.

But possibly the Hormex had something to do with it? I don't have any experience with this product but I assume it does contain hormones of some sort?

I know I'm not giving you any help here but really I'm not sure there is any help, other than experimenting and allowing the plant to bloom again without the aid of a hormone product.

It may still be deformed when it flowers again but at least you can rule out any outside influence and assume it's simply a poor quality plant.

It is deformed but I think it's pretty cool in it's own right.

Why are you using Hormex on your plant?
Paph pinnochio is a sequential bloomer so you will get at least one more flower before the inflorescence dies, if the second flower emerges alright it may be the hormones, if its still deformed you will have to wait for the next bloom, minus the hormones, to tell if its a genetic defect or maybe something enviormental.

Doc, I am really thinking the crowding is starting to cause some problems with normal developement. Any time you want to board out some plants up north, give a shout!

Ross, I'd love to send some of the chids to winter camp, but they said it might be too cold up north! They figured they'd stay warmer all cuddled together down here in the GH.....But thanks for the offer....

Just curious about what you've decided to do? Are you thinking it might be the Hormex?

I only started using Hormex in the last couple of weeks. If it is hormone related, it would be the SuperThrive....we'll see what the next flowers look like. There are at least 2 maybe 3 more buds.
