Gin, that spider of yours looks like a golden Argiope (I might of spelled that wrong). If it is the size should be quite large. Really nice photo. I had a Striped Argiope in the greenhouse once and it bent a robust bllom spike Oncidium type in half to make a circle of it's web. Argiopes appear to be rare in Oregon

That's a nice one, Gin! We call those Zipper spiders here (not scientific name) I guess you can figure it has to do with the zipper-ee looking stitch in the middle of the web.
We used to have lots of them around the dairy and calf barn but I haven't seen one in a while.

Thanks for the info. David , glad this one is in the yard , the ones in the GH. are smaller . I like to look but not touch  What we have here in Mo. are recluse spiders they really have a nasty bite.. Gin |

I can't kill a spider, no matter where it is. They are fascinating, beautiful, industrious, and usually well behaved. They're also good critter eliminators. I love them, so I guess I vote for #2, too.

Can I vote for all 5? I found myself looking at spider web sites (pun intended) until I creeped my self out. Now I get the distinct impression that something is crawling up my back. Anyone like Snakes?

Oh yeah, I like spiders & snakes & most creepy crawlies. They are fascinating. Don't like the "bad guys" that eat my plants though. Do like the "good guys" that eat the "bad guys" |
