Don, I recently got one from eBay for about $18.50 (it was an auction), shipping costs from United Kingdom to the Netherlands included.
Maybe not as accurate as an expensive one, but good enough for me.
It let's me compare for instance the light in South faced window A to the light in South faced window B, 1 ft away from a South faced window to the light outdoors on my North faced balcony etc. The results were quit shocking
Our eyes can't tell which spot brighter and the meter does help me to determine which spot in the house is brighter/ too bright.
As said, maybe not as accurate but all I want to know if I have for instance 5000 Lux or 10000 Lux, not if I'm getting 5050 or 5000 Lux
