Default ODD thing with Polyrrhizza

I decieded to remove the moss from the mount, in the process there were a couple of roots that were not attached to the plant. This mount had about a mile of line on it. I put the moss and plant fragments in a glass and forgot about it. A week passes, find it hard as a rock but roots are nice and green. After a good soak they appear very much alive. Anybody know if it is possible for these to become plants? It also seems odd that they are alive at all given the nature of Poly. lind.
