Cymbidiums with black spots on base of leaves?

Need help! I repotted my Cymbidiums 3 weeks ago? Yesterday I noticed some brown/black spots on the base of the leaves (see pictures). Would anyone recognize them? If my plants are infected, what would be the cure (and prevention in the future). Thanks.

Don't know absolutely, but they don't look like anything infectious....maybe just truma of replanting ...like bruising....maybe sun damage. Typically fertilizer burn occures on the leaf tips as does sunburn...I'm sure a Cymb person will chime in soon!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Finding red areas on cymbidiums is usually an idication of too much light. I would move the plant into a more shaded area for now. When the sunlight is weakest in your area move it back into an area with good light and allow the plant to adjust to the bright light slowly as the season changes.

Was the plant exposed to wet and cool conditions? Looks like bacterial spotting with defined pitting. This is not coloration from high light exposure. My thought was if the plant was wet, and then experienced temps below 60. If this only just showed up after repotting, something happened to induce this. Anything come to mind? I also noticed the heavily pitted leaf tip in the picture. Wet or humid conditions, with too little air flow can be a major contributor to pitting.

Black spots on the leaf tip is a sure indication of the PH being too low within the pot so you have repotted just in time . The red spots looks like bruising. What sort of media are you using ? As this sort of bruising can occur if you have hard lumps of stone or bark in your mix . New shoots of cybids are also somewhat delicate and can easily pick up damage during repotting . Unfortunately damage to the plant can be an opening for fungal or bacterial infection so make sure your treat the plant accordingly.

The dark spot pattern at the base of the leaf growths look very much like what I get here and call the 3 pm sunburn. One can see a normal green band on one of the leaf growths (second growth from left) that shows that the dark pattern was a momentary radiation that the plant leaf did not continue to get as it grew and shows the split in the pattern. I do not think you have anything to worry about, just move the plant to more shade and not let it get the afternoon side sun radiation which is usually quite strong. The morning sun can also be quite damaging at times.

Hummm....with the irregular markings it COULD be a virus. If this is new and only after repotting, I would also include a fungus in the differential diagnosis. Try and spray with something simple like an anti-fungal solution with or without cinnamon infusion spray and see if this changes anything.
Testing for a virus can be done and there are some viral testing kits that are available to test at home. If the plant is infected, remove it from your collection before it spreads to other plants.

Not sure what you have there but if it were my plant I would isolate it till I found out. Where do you live - have you had a lot of heavy overcast and rain?
