If anyone is interested in a real piece of history, I have George Washington's dentures. Buy it now price: $56,145.63.

O.K., the old guy's name was actually George Washington Jones but that's pretty close.

Come on! If you had a plant worth that kind of money why not just clone it? The resulting plants would still be part of the original. After all, clones are grown from cells from the parent plant, so the are technically a division of the original. They just come from a smaller cutting.

This is the perfect auction for an orchid collector with "more money than brains", as my Mom would say.

HEY! You stole his dentures? Nice!

I agree, you have to have more money than brains to buy this one. And COMPLETELY agreed, this plant needs to be cloned.

Even more so, the owner of the plant should be outcrossing with other Cattleya warscewiczii var. alba to increase possibility of more albas... but I guess not doing so will keep the albinos rare and more valuable. Hand-in-hand thing... anyways...

This is interesting, I was watching this other auction
Cattleya warscewiczii 'Helena de Ospina' orchid species - eBay (item 200232139016 end time Jun-22-08 20:27:14 PDT)
which sold for close to $1G, and was virused. I know this species of cattleya is desirable, but a thousand dollars will buy a whole mess 'o' plants! And a couple of gallons of gas, too. I have an old overgrown C. warcswiczii, and am tempted to part it out (yeah, get a new Honda, that's the ticket).
Regards - Nancy

Hi guys!! I saw another Ebay listing sold by the same guy who was selling the $5k orchid. This time, bidding has gone up to $910.00

However, I saw an orchid on Jewell Orchids with the same name being sold for $26. What gives?

Either the guy is a scammer or he is selling an original division of the plant rather than a mericlone. My guess is scammer....

I found on New Page 1 a section called investment paphs and they have this Sanderianum Rapanzul AM/AOS on sale for $19.999.

I'm a newbie but it seems a little outragous, Paph & Phrag afficionados please let me know if this is realistic .

Scroll to almost the bottom of the page.
