Orchids & Onions...

Hi All,
Does anybody know where the idea to use the word orchid to describe a kudo? I've seen this in some articles where the word orchid was used to describe something good and the word onion was used to describe something bad. I'm just curious...

Orchids & Onions (aka Cheers & Jeers) is an old newspaper term for handing out positive and negative feedback.
I guess a cruder form of the expression would be Flowers & Farts
