Default Keiki Update

Here is anb update to my original thread "Keiki or Not" posted a month or so ago. What is of interest to me is that the plant had two old spikes and I "innoculated" two nodes on each spike. As you can see it appears I am getting both a new flower spike as well as a keiki.... I'm hoping the keikis do develope because the parent plant has crown rot

Good job.
I'm just trying to get one of my phals to form a keiki also. I peeled bach the cover on some nodes and discovered that one has new growth, to small to tell what it is. So far I've done nothing.
When you refer to old spikes, are you talking about spikes that have finished flowering? What did you innoculate with?
Thanks.

Doc, your pics are so crisp they make me sick. It's like HD plasma tv or something.

Howard, why not remove the flower spike and see if that strengthens the vegetative growth? Just a thought.

Thanks for the compiments about the pics. I applied Keiki Grow Plus. Since it is my only plant, Ross, I figured if this did nothing I could always do as you say and see what happens. I have had 3 or 4 crown rot plants initiate new basilar growth that had no spikes and they are growing very well Thank Someone!

I use KeiKei Pro, but I assume the formulations of all the brands are pretty similar. I don't really want stem KeiKeis, but when I've had a "problem" Phal., I try to stimulate Basal KeiKeis. I've also used it to promote additional growths on Sympodial plants, generally with success. I guess this is "cheating", like rhizome cutting, but since I don't show them, just grow them for my own (and my wife's) pleasure, I don't feel bad about it.

Here are some "results" pictures (not NEARLY as good as yours BikerDoc).

From left, first three are Phal.'s that I lost/almost lost to crown rot. The third from the left, I assumed was a goner and was going to throw it away, but gave it a shot. ALL leaves had been gone for at least a couple of months. It MAY have one viable root, but KeiKei Pro got some action out of it.

The fourth is a BL. Morning Glory that I accidently had in a "sprinkler shadow", and by the time I noticed it was suffering it was pretty bad (you can tell by the really shriveled mature psuedobolbs). Doesn't usually work THIS well, but it has 6 new growths that you can see in the picture, PLUS 3 more that are just emerging from the mix.

Whatever brand you use, I really recommend this as a great way to rescue plants, increrase new growths or multiply plants.

Ed
