we are too nice, Should we suggest Aaron to sterilize a razor and cut the tumor off his plant, then put his Vando through chemo-therapy afterwards?

It's a male vanda, that's all!

Kiki-do,
Thank-you for clarifying. I suspected as much. And to think, Jorch wanted me to cut it off!? What kind of man would even joke about doing something like that. I think his sense of humor must have been twisted by all those years of "Kids In The Hall".

I thought my pretty little Phal was spiking too, but it looks like it's a third kieki!? One set of flowers followed by three new growths!! I love this little plant. At this rate, everyone I know is going to have one of their own by this time next year. This little guy reproduces faster than the tribbles on the old Star Trek series.

Aaron, "it's not a tumor!" (said in my best impression of an arnold schwarzaneger voice...and I have no idea how to spell his name so pssshhhh!!!!). In case you want to hear arnie say it here's a link (it is in the 5th cloumn 8 down) crocoPuffs: Arnold Schwarzenegger Soundboard
Haha..I gave myself a laugh at least! We need sound-o-vision and smell-o-vision on here.

Anyway, I am glad to see you got a vanda spike. My advice to you since you too are outdoors in central Florida is to treat for spider mites and thrips before they get to your plant! I have had lots of times that they didn't but recently they did and that memory is all too fresh in my mind. I just use some good ol' Malithion that I got from Lowes or HD and do that once a week or so when they are in spike. Apparently the buggies like spikes too...alot!

Those newbies you got are very pretty too. I liked the first picture, it is kind of close to one that I have already. Where did you get them? I need to know!!!

I also like the cactus...I think my mom has the same one and is supposed to give me a cutting soon...no wait hers is a pink bloom. I think hers is called a night blooming cyrus or something like that?

Anyway good job! I knew they would reward you soon enough. Keep us posted.

If you ever want to see a completely mediocre setup with a few of the many orchids blooming, you can stop on by my house! Or you can just drive by as alot of it is visible from the road, which is very scary because I am always afraid there is some complex plot to steal my favorite plants....lol.

Anyway, keep us updated!

Hi,

I had to say that this is a very nice place to learn about orchids.

Hey Aaron, it must be rather heartening to see your orchid put out a spike.

Maybe your wife wouldn't find your hobby so funky anymore.

Hi Joseph, Welcome to OB!
Please take a moment to post in the Introductions thread so other members can say hello! We would love to hear more about your orchid growing, and anything you would like to share with us. We also love pics if you care to post them.
I think you'll like it here, everyone is friendly and helpful.

Hi Kiki,

I most certainly will post a picture of my orchid when they bloom again. It didn't occur to me to take some pictures when I first bought them in bloom.

Now I'm kind of in the same situation as Aaron. Nothing but green to show (correction: at least he has a new spike). I don't think you would want to see more leaves and an old spike.

Yeah me!!!

Check out this vanda I rescued. This thing was in rough shape less than a year ago.
Thanks to all the little people who's advice made this possible.
If anyone has a name for this Vanda please let me know.

Hey Aaron, we told you! Blooms do exist! I don't know the name of this vanda, but it's beautiful and looks like you are over the bloomless hump. Great growing!
