Delayed Reaction
I recently finished repotting my phals...I know should have done this a month or so ago but lazy me! Anyway, I was wondering in my laziness, after repotting, have any of you found a lag time before new vegetive growth (leaves) begins? Once again I'm too lazy to search the board for the answer...and there may be no double-blind scientific answer...just wondering what some of you have found with your plants...and not only phals, other chids, too????

Chococatte - seeing you have so much time on your hands (repotting after repotting etc.) you could come to my greenhouse and repot each one only once!

many plants will "rest" briefly after being repotted. I wonder if it's really a stall from the shock, or an internal chemistry adjustment, or maybe it's growing new roots first, and I just can't see that progress.
For me, paphs seem to leap for the sky almost immediately after repotting.

Ray - how do you do that with paphs? I have three that we divisions from a friend a year ago (almost) and they just sit there doing nothing. No new leaves, nadda'.
I think I have a good mix: 2 pt fine bark, 1 pt med perlite, 1 pt #2 charcoal and 1 tbls oyster shell. Watered as necessary, east window...what now? Sorry Biker I know it's not about phals. but it's along the same line as your "delayed action". Thanks
Don

No apologies needed and no offensetaken....my original post was specifically about phals but at the end did include any/all chids. For me this was an interesting topic to hear what others had experienced....this is about learning and growing both within and our chids.

My phals usually respond rapidly once I repot them. Some of them immediately send out new roots and a new leaf and some are a little more stubborn and take about a month. They have minds of their own don't they?

I despise re-potting..... maybe this is partly or subconsciously why Vandaceous are my favorite. Keep a log of all your actions, fert./ water/ potting, EVERYTHING. Consistency is ultra critical. When I repot its only because I have to in order to keep them at their best. Typically its the addition of better fresher air and circulation that can lead to a boost in growth. (Unless, Ray, your using a particular type of acid Also, Paphs and Phrags do the same for me (as per Ray's comments) but these, I'm sure, are already healthy plants that were potted correctly to begin with. Have you changed watering habits? Just as this addiction is habit forming, as such what are your care habits?
