Labelling methods

So. As I was watering my orchids this week, I noticed (with some horror) that the labels were fading. I buy the plastic ones and I label everything with a sharpie marker. In light of the fact that my orchid collection seems to multiply seemingly without my help, I am in search of a new, and hopefully more permanent method of labeling.

I have all of the orchids listed in a database, so I know all the information on the ones I have. I went online and found some company that makes stainless steel labels and they aren't that expensive (like 45.00 for 500) Anyway, do any of you use metal labels? Would the stainless steel leech onto the medium?

what method(s) do you use to label your chids? thanks for the input. I have to get this under control because I have so many plants. Thanks.
