I've used it, but mainly as a miteicide. From my understanding if you spray the top of the leaf, it will trans locate to the bottom side which makes spraying much easier.

Avid sounds like a trade name. What's the active ingredient? You may be able to find a cheaper pesticide with the same 'stuff' in it.

I always read the reports of pesticides and fungicides that I plan to use due to being endlessly curious. I found this:

Abamectin

Imidacloprid is another possibility... a cheaper one, I think.

Abamectin is only one that is effektiv on all 4 groups of mites.

If nothing else can't get rid of mites, so Abamectin do...

I am not certified to make pesticide recommendations... we're talking the strong stuff here. I can only say that Safari has worked well for me going after scale on Catts and other things. Also pricey... and needs to be used very surgically - only on the affected plants (ideally, in the media so that it gets taken up by roots, being a systemic, not on surfaces where good insects are likely to land and touch it) , because it is horrid, very deadly for bees if it gets on anything that bees might like. Bees don't munch on orchids, so if the stuff is only where a sucking insect will get it (in the plant tissue, not on surface of leaves), the danger to bees is greatly minimized.

But if it is just scale, you can save the Abamectin for mites and use an Imidacloprid-based insecticide (much cheaper, very effective).

It is very, very important to match the pesticide to the pest. An insecticide won't kill mites (which are arachnids not insects) and a miticide won't kill insects (scale, aphids, etc) Bayer's Advanced 3-in-1 is mostly imidacloprid(insecticide), though it does contain a miticide, but not a lot.
