mutations can happen with orchids... why cant it happen with bugs! you'd be better off squishing it with a steam roller before it eats you.

just a short word of advise...

Great thread! This helps to answer some of my questions about Physan 20. I just got my first bottle the other day and have yet to use it. I knew the warnings before I bought it, but still... kinda skeeerd.

I also keep my orchids in the house. They do however, have their own room... kind of. The kittie' litter box is in there, and a bunch of 'stuff.' The chids have their own corner though, and are on shelves with trays under them. I suppose I could spray just fine. I'd have to be careful of the lights, but that applys to misting as well.

But now my little family has grown to 25, and I think some preventative measures need to be taken, especially since I tend to buy on impulse at times... But, in my defense, I do keep newbies solitary.

I use physan as well, i make sure not to get the concentrated stuff on my hands, and if i do i wash it off with cold water *like ross said*

I use the spray bottles, so i don't really get any on my hands,i dont wear gloves and masks. But if you aren't sure how your skin will react to the stuff you should just wear protective stuff.

Id go with your gut instinct, especially if it made you think of the dangers.

A well ventilated area should be understood as not in your home. If your favorite pet dog or cat was sitting at your feet while your were spraying, would you be concerned? What about a baby, yours or otherwise? If so, why subject yourself to the same stuff? (If not, you've got issues)

If the guy next door doesn't care, and subjects his health and anyone else's to God knows what, dosent mean its OK. In todays world, we are all subjected to a long list of chemicals daily. Depending on what you do for a living, and where you live, some more than others. No need to carelessly add to it. Safety first, always.

BikerDoc, how often do you spray with Physan 20 for prevention?

Noe, I spray at least monthly and sometimes more frequently if I've been "hosing" things down with lots of water....I get nervous that the "crud" will get my chids again. I mix it somewhat on the weak side and so far so good none of my chids seem to be affected, in fact, they look pretty health. I even use a weak solution in a big bucket for pre-soaking when I transplant. It helps wash off all the old mix/dead debris and soften the phal roots so they fit into the pot. Then I soak in SuperThrive or KLN before placing in their new home.

Having just undergone a bout of Lyme Disease, I'm right with you on the ticks!

FWIW, I routinely bathe with my natural liquid soap to which I have added Physan (other than a major twitch in my right eye, I'm fine) , and if you have ever been to a swimming pool, you have been exposed to similar chemicals.

Granted, the spray application is more concentrated than either of those applications, so you should be careful - especially of the concentrate.

When was Diazonone banned, I still have a stash I got from my grandparents when they cleaned out their garage, works wonders for aphids and mosquitos, but I didn't know it was banned.
