side mount phals

Hello i am interested in growing phals on a trained side mount, i have been growing them in spag and clear pots, but i have seen pictures posted on this site from the Eastern Countrys where they grow alot of Phals on this pourous 1 1/2" matierial? they look like they like to hang sideways on a wall like this? does anyone here grow phals like this? do you have good luck with this side style mount? what is this 1 1/2" pourous material? it dosent look like cork? where in the USA can i obtain this material? any help would be great my freinds!!
