Default Fertilizer?

Wanda, I use the Dyna-Gro products, 10-5-5, 7-9-5, 7-7-7, and Mag Pro. I use the fertlizer @125ppm N for two waterings and the third I use the Mag Pro @1/2 tsp. per gallon. The fourth watering is RO water. I also use RO water in the fertilizer mix with 1/4 tsp. Pro-Tekt per gallon to adjust the ph to 6.0-6.5. When I mix the Mag Pro I use tap water and the ph is in the correct range. By the way all my plants are doing great with this watering schedule.

Good Growing, Joe

I have used DynaGro Grow and it did a fine job. About 6 months ago I switched to GreenCare MSU formula and I think I'm getting better results. I use both at 125ppm N at every watering. I water weekly. I also flush the pot with plain water before I hit it with any fert.

My schedule is the same every week. I need to keep it simple because I have a bad case of CRS!

I use a 30.10.10 in spring and a 10.10.30 in fall, magnesium sulfathe once a month and calcium nithrate every two months

Wanda, as you can see from the few posts so far, most of us use what has "worked" in their specific setting. The "food" question is a major recurrent topic and, personally, I don't think there is an absolute correct answer. I have read opinions about urea-based vs non- urea, higher N during the vegetive phase of growth and higher PO4/K for flowering. I believe there is some sound reasoning for any of the forqoing. I guess it is all in what you find logical and fits into your scheme of things. I think the main theme to all of this is that you feed your plants with some regularity because the growing media used for orchids doesn't retain much of what we feed them. I was using a urea based food per directions and was not getting good results. I switched to Better Gro products and have seen a major positive change. Is this product any better than the MSU or Dyna Grow? I don't know, but doubt it. I like it because I have been getting good results, it is relatively cheap
($3.80/lb) and very available at my local Lowe's.

Go to the First Rays' Free Info page and read the section on feeding your plants. It won't give you an absolute answer, but it will help you understand what your plants need.
