#1 My first love: D speciosum var grandiflorum. Got it 15 years ago, has 40 canes now and puts on quite a show every spring.

#2 My first obsession: Bulbophyllum fletcherianum 'Paul's Fragrance' AM/AOS. I got it awarded and they renamed it B spiesii. I was major irritated by this and fought the AOS for a couple of years. Now spiesii is a syn of fletcherianum and my plant again has the proper tag.

#3 My current heart throb: A big Grammatophyllum speciosum I got from Kawamoto Orchids this Spring. It is right now building 16 flower spikes.

None of these are window sill growers and all need lots of space. I'm lucky to have the space and these are my favorites.

Nick

I think the best you can do is contact Botanical Gardens and Herbaria directly. This is the kind of places where I would expectto find such collections...

My favorite that I have and that is currently blooming is a Ctt. Jeweller's Gem. It has delightful flowers that are about an 1 1/2 inches. I bought it earlier this year and has thrown out three new growths even though it is the middle of the winter. I am guessing that this will bloom at least twice a year as it blooms as the p'bulb is developing and it puts out new growths as the current blooms are growing! It is also VERY compact!

Encyclia adenocaule not the easiest but doable think cattleya conditions with clearly rest period.

Thunia alba var. alba (syn marshalliana) Easy to grow I grow mine in my living room and it flowers every year. Plenty of water and fertilizer when growing no water during dormancy intermediate temperatures.

Cattley purpurata (formerly laelia) in all it's variations. Fairly easy to grow. Standard Cattleya conditions.

Stanhophea nigrovialacea the only one I don't have the place to grow.

Laelia anceps var guerrero Cattleya conditions clearly reduced watering during dormancy.

There are a lot more of course but this is pretty close to my personal top 5.

Okay..... if I survived the initial heartfailure at the idea of having to choose..... I would definately have to go with "Angie" first and formost "Angie"= Angraecum Comorense, huge plant, very showy, very forgiving of my inconsistant growing and the fragrance is fantastic makes me want to sleep in my greenhouse.( can't have plants in house small cat is very destructive). THe other is my B. Little Stars. THese are the first and formost for me but I have quite a few others that I would be very sad to lose. Unfortunately my greenhouse was robbed a couple of years ago and the plants that were taken were very dear to me I still haven't really gotten over it and I know exactly who did it although not a name but if I ever run into him at a show I don't know if I could restrain my self!
