Coerulea breeding question
Hey all!
I have done a lot of reading about genetics and breeding (mostly in Cattleya). I think I have the basics figured out for the most part. One thing I have not found written is how coeruleas breed. I'm mostly curious about cattleya breeding but if you phal folks have it figured out I'd love to hear about it.
Is it just a recessive gene?
Does a selfed coerulea yield 100% coerulea?
Is it like alba where there is more than one kind?
It seems like a mutation which causes the anthrocyanin to shift away from the red end of the spectrum across the whole flower. Does that mean it's a mutation in the enzyme that activates the pigment? Otherwise you might see partially coerulea like semi alba right?
If anyone knows about this or has read a book or article about it please enlighten me!!
