In my experience, Cycnoches chlorochilon typically maintain no more than 3-4 bulbs, with the fourth or fifth bulb generally dying in mid- to late- summer as new growth matures. Considering this growth pattern, is spring the optimal time to remove the oldest backbulb for propagation to start a new plant?

As an example, Cycnoches Sevenfold 'Big Bear's Bronze Beast' FCC/AOS is shown below. Although the bulb is small, it presents a valuable opportunity for propagation rather than allowing it to perish.

Divide Cycnoches in late winter, early spring.
