I vote not sunburn (I've got a 50-50 chance of being right). I think it might be something to do with watering, too much or too little during a growing time. I say that because I have seen it on my orphan plants that have been through hard times. It doesn't seem to get worse. It is like scars. Am I right?

Okay, I say it's going to be a beautiful spotted catt and it's just getting into character for the grand opening.
Did I win???? Huh, did I?????

Sorry Guess I'm a little punchy ..
Have the spots spread at all? or have they remained the same since you have had it?

I vote not sunburn, but you are def. pushing the light. The purple is from high light. The black spots are from moisture/spraying/who knows. But Oncidium class does this. The purple is a good sign - lots of light = more flowers next cycle.

I vote for it having Cattleya lueddemaniana in the background. those spottings are normal in this species when exposed to high lights
Do you have the ID of this plant?

I'd vote but since I'm in Florida, it probably wouldn't count anyway

For what it's worth, this is Lc Gaiety Flambeau 'Mendenhall' AM/AOS x L purpurata.
Personally, I vote for a bit too much sunlite....it is affacting only the soft new growth and not the older leaves....so everyone is a winner so far and we are all having good fun....makes me a happy Doc!
