I have a super tiny phal, the entire plant covers less space than my palm. I got it in bloom, with the spike under the first leaf on one side. Since then, it spiked, terminally, before blasting all of the 20 or so buds. Then, a root came out from the same spot, followed by yet another spike, this one opening the first bloom about 2 or 3 days ago.

Is this common? I had some terminal spikes before, all ending in death with or without keikis. Never before did i have an orchid bloom from the crown twice, producing a vertical root in the same place as well.

Not sure how important it is, but since i got it, about 10ish months ago, it has not grown or lost a single leaf, and roots seemed healthy last time i checked.

Any explanation?

Thats a strange one alright! I have no explanation other than that these plants probably get some doses of hormones and stimulants to make them perfect for the store. I assume that this makes them do strange things sometimes.

I would just hang in there. If you take good care of it, it will eventually produce an offshoot and probably grow normally from there on out

I have one just like that. Miniature noid phal with a terminal spike. The plant is very healthy and I'm keeping a record of how it behaves. All the blooms have faded and there is a new spike coming off an older one. We can compare notes as the plants progress.
