Fertilizer w Cal-mag in southern florida?
Default Fertilizer w Cal-mag in southern florida?

I live in Miami dade county (southern Florida), which has a good bit of calcium and magnesium bc of our limestone bedrock.

I'm using well water. I wanted to try a new fert but it has cal mag in it, is this a bad thing?

It's not necessary if you use your water. You do need to be careful about the concentration of dissolved solids if you add fertilizer to water already high in dissolved solids.

A couple of comments:

N, Ca, Mg, and K can complete for uptake sites within the plant. An excess in one can result in a deficiency in one or more of the others.

Fertilizer is one of the least important aspects of orchid culture. Switching fertilizer formula won't have a noticeable impact on your plants, assuming you apply the same amount of nitrogen.

I am a fan of Kelpak. I use it according to the directions on all new arrivals, then about monthly during the growing season.

Hi Drew,
There are many fans of Kelpak here. And K-lite fertilizer, as well. Glad you make it here. Lots of good advice to be had. And like Roberta said, we are all enablers here!
