Growing a Maxillaria Tenuifolia

Thanks everyone for their suggestions and advice. I'm off to look for the supplies. I can't wait to get this--it's my shout out to Central America LOL (I'm originally from Nicaragua and I am starting a garden with mexican/hacienda design, so I thought, what could be more appropriate? )

When people say it doesn't like to be disturbed they aren't kidding. Mines been pitching a fit for six months since I repotted it. It holds a grudge so long I'm thinking or naming it after my ex.
Good luck and don't be afraid to water whenever it's getting dry. Part of the problem with mine was that I needed to drink more often than I allowed it (again like my ex).

I have a plant that had been in the same pot for many, many years and was declining. About three months ago, I repotted it in medium tree fern in an eight inch pot and I am happy to say that it is growing like a weed. They do not like being repotted so that is why I used tree fern. It is good for years without breaking down. I read somewhere that the plant like even moisture which can be provided by using the tree fern and will never become too wet. They seem to do well anywhere from phal to cat light.

Interesting. Only tree fern? do you grow yours indoors or outdoors? Thanks.

Jerry - It's funny you say that as I have two. One planted in bark, char. perlite, and placed in a hanging basket and it is now in bloom. (See my gallery) and the other is mounted on a tree fern block....sitting stagnet for the past year. No new growth, no flowers, nothing - just sits there. I was going to take off block and pot up.

thanks for all of the information. I just received mine yesterday and it had 2 flowers. They smell wonderful!! I'm in love.
