Could I get some suggestions for books about specific orchid genera? For instance, Arthur Holst's "World of Catasetums" is a great resource on Catasetums.

I would like to see a few answers to this question myself. I'm surprised to see nothing since October. What say you well-read members?

I wouldn't consider myself well-read, but I saw this the other day: Martin R. Motes, PhD, at MotesOrchids has a book on Vanda orchids:

The Natural Genus Vanda — Motes Orchids

I have never bought an orchid book. The ones I found in the library in the 1990's were most unhelpful (greenhouse, Osmunda or treefern fiber....). I found that asking the vendor how to grow the orchid was a great way to learn about them and I use many of those growing tips even to this day. Now, I can find most of the information online or ask at an orchid society meeting....

I dont have any good recs for books, but I highly recommend joining the AOS and browsing their online archive of articles. The archive goes back almost 100 years and contains every article ever published in ORCHIDS magazine (was orchid digest). I read it constantly!

Parsons and Gerritsen Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species 2nd edition
The orchids are miniature, the books aren't! 4 volumes.

Default Good source for 2nd Edition of Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species

Roberta -This reminder prompted me to finally search out and order the 2nd edition of the Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species. Only a few online book companies offer it and the range of prices is significant. I finally settled on Exotic Plant Books in Long Prairie, Minnesota and was pleasantly surprised at the care they gave to packing the set of 4 books and the speed with which they sent them. They apparently only have one more set and are hesitating to buy more because of the taxes, import/export fees and the constantly changing exchange rate between the dollar and the pound make the current price unattractive. That may explain the range of asking prices on the website of other online book companies. They may or may not still have that last set left, so ....

Glad that you got it! It's a magnificent set of books. (I got mine right after it came out, participated in the initial order that was shipped to Mary Gerritsen. I don't know if she has any more copies, I can ask her, if anyone needs a set and can't find it, )
