These cost over $100, sometimes as a yearly subscription, so it might be cheaper to buy a refurbished Chromebook just to run OrchidWiz...
Probably a better idea. I hate the concept of "renting" software (subscriptions)
I sure wish someone would take over OW (like AOS). It is such a valuable resource, so many things could go wrong and cause it to be lost.

I didn't enter the discussion earlier because I didn't have time to do some research. Oracle Virtual Box is free virtual machine software. It runs on computers with x86 and AMD64/Intel64 processors. If you're thinking of buying an older computer, old Macs are a consideration. I used Virtual Box not long ago when I took the free Harvard online intro to computer science course via EdX. Virtual Box is not too difficult to use.
Oracle VM VirtualBox
There is a version installable on MacOS which permits hosting a Windows virtual machine. The user must provide whatever runs inside the virtual machine. You can buy installable versions of older versions of Windows online from eBay and other sites. I would get the oldest version that runs OrchidWiz, because those will probably be easier to install and configure. You don't need to give the virtual machine network access so security is not much of an issue.

Default Good source for 2nd Edition of Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species

Roberta -This reminder prompted me to finally search out and order the 2nd edition of the Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species. Only a few online book companies offer it and the range of prices is significant. I finally settled on Exotic Plant Books in Long Prairie, Minnesota and was pleasantly surprised at the care they gave to packing the set of 4 books and the speed with which they sent them. They apparently only have one more set and are hesitating to buy more because of the taxes, import/export fees and the constantly changing exchange rate between the dollar and the pound make the current price unattractive. That may explain the range of asking prices on the website of other online book companies. They may or may not still have that last set left, so ....

Glad that you got it! It's a magnificent set of books. (I got mine right after it came out, participated in the initial order that was shipped to Mary Gerritsen. I don't know if she has any more copies, I can ask her, if anyone needs a set and can't find it, )
