Nobilior coerulescen - Orchid Board

Hi All,

Recently i came across this name "nobilior coerulescen". I would like to know what is the difference between nobilior coerulescen and nobilior coerulea? Or Are they actually the same?

Please advice.

I think they are the same, yes. I think 'coerulescen' is just a little outdated. Could be wrong. Curious if anyone else has a different answer

There should be an S at the end, coerulescens. Often the -escens suffix denotes a pale colored version of the color scheme.

So when is a flower referred to as coerulescens vs just calling the plant a coerulea? It's seems to me that it was a term that was used before coerulea was well understood. Is it supposed to be a different condition?

Yes, it's just a paler, lighter version of coerulea
