Default Protocol for importing flasks from UK to USA?

Hi y'all, I'm looking to import one or more flasks of PNG Dendrobiums seedlings in-flask from a nursery in the United Kingdom, and I live in Texas. I'm trying to get down a bullet-point list of sorts that describes the steps that I and the seller would need to take. If anyone who's done similar imports/exports could help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I think I’ve seen some posts over the last 6-ish months about importing in general, and there was a ton of helpful info on those threads if you want to go digging.

You need a USDA-APHIS general plant import permit. Look on their Web site for e-Permits and the rules. If you want to import orchid species you will need a CITES permit. Do a lot of reading and be careful. Breaking the rules can be very expensive in fines.

Thanks for advice on the APHIS e-permit. I found a great PDF from the AOS with guidelines for importing orchids- it includes a list of CBP ports of entry, one of which is in Brownsville which isnt too far from me. They have a phone number so I'm gonna give them a call tommorow and ask about importing flasks. Thanks!

The PDF in case anyone wants it: http://www.c-we.com/cios/pdf/importing.pdf

I've read in many places that flasks are exempt from CITES, but also that it depends on how the seed was collected... I'll have to look into that too

Flasks do not need CITIES permits, but check since there are probably other permits attached to milk for some $$$

Also, be aware that most customs officers have zero experience with shipments of orchids, so they might still demand a CITES certificate (or reject a valid certificate).

I believe I’ve imported from them before if it is who I’m thinking of.

You need your import permit from USDA-APHIS. There is a fee to pay for the permit. You need import labels.

The phytosanitary or CITES you get from the seller. You may not need either in the case of flasks, but I don’t remember since it has been a long time ago. Rules and laws may have also changed so make sure with the USDA officer.

I just went through a ton of research for importing, and got a USDA-APHIS permit. It's super easy so there's no harm in getting one, but I did get a whole PDF from them basically saying that you don't need a permit for flasks at all.
