Default Kool-Logs - Are they a good alternative for mounted orchids...

...in a dry environment.
I have one mounted orchid but I need to mist it every days. It's a drag!

What do you think?

When I tried one, I found that the white salt deposits built up quickly. RO water might give a better result. I didn't keep it going for long, as I recall.

I have had mixed success with them. A few plants will grab on, but many don't. And they don't stay that wet unless you add some sphaghum - the water drains out of the porous clay pretty fast so they don't buy all that much extra time between waterings

You may be able to find terra cotta pots that weep more water than the higher quality Italian ones. I have read members here saying they were able to use those when regular KoolLogs didn't stay moist enough.

I recall reading here of people glueing the rims of two pots the same size together, putting a plug into one pot's drainage hole and hanging the contraption. The inverted pot's drain hole was used to fill the pots. I think other people set on pot, inverted, into a dish of water with the orchid mounted on the pot.

Eureka! I just remembered this thread on using an olla. Neo on an olla
