Epidendrum ciliare not growing ?
Default Epidendrum ciliare not growing ?

I have a question about a Epidendrum ciliare. I purchased this orchid 12/27/19 and it looks exactly the same as the day I bought it. I have never seen an orchid or any plant for that matter do this. I live in SW Florida. I have it hanging directly over a Epidendrum Stanfordianum, which I have had for many years and blooms on a regular and spectacular schedule. They are in my lanai(with pool which keeps a little warmer in winter) facing south x southwest so good light no high heat direct sun. Watered daily in the heat of the summer and less in the other seasons. Fertilized on a weekly basis in growing season on a rotating schedule with Dyna Bloom, Peters 20-20-20, Kelpmax or K Lite. I have around 80-100 orchids and all seem to thrive on this program. I am obviously not doing something that this guy needs and I am hoping to get some suggestions. I have attached a photo below and would appreciate any advice any of you have. Thank You

Your conditions might just be too warm for the plant.

Have you considered a bright window inside, with A/C?

A friend gave me this division of his plant a couple of years ago. This years blooms are just about finished.

I'm in the Lower Keys so you can successfully grow that plant where you are but I would recommend you mount it and do so in the hanging "pendant" position (roots up).

They are not fast growers so be patient. Medium light (mine is is shadehouse right where 60 & 80 % shadecloth merge so shoot for 70%. No direct sun. Hit it with the hose once a day (morning) if you don't have misters and feed weakly weekly. I'm finding it to be a pretty straightforward keeper.

Once you have this plant blooming you will love it. It puts out the most amazing intense fragrance every night which is why I move it to the porch when it's in bloom.

Mine is very near my stanfordianum as well so you are in the right ballpark. I think mounting it will make the difference. The roots want to be free to roam but dry very quickly after watering.

I think it's too much light. They grow on branches under the canopy.
