Good thread. I thought immediately of the underground orchid (Rhizanthella gardeneri) which is probably about as weird as you can get although certainly not attractive.
I have to admit I have often tried to understand what the vegetative parts of these plants look like but still don’t know. I think the majority of specimens are dug up accidentally and damaged by the process.
I don’t have a photo I can post without breaching copyright so I’ll just leave a link

Was this with regard to AaronOB's statement about photos and copyrights? If the photo is your own, you have an "implied" copyright, you can do anything you want with it. If a photo is from someone else (or lifted from the Web), unless the owner has given permission, then it's a copyright violation. If you use someone else's photos in something like a presentation (and you don't make any money from it), a gray area but if you give credit (always!), probably OK under the Fair Use concept. But since anything that you put on the Web is easily copied by anybody else, at any time, don't do it unless it's yours. In AaronOB's case, he's referencing a website, the photo is theirs, so his approach is absolutely correct.

Dactylorhiza has already been mentioned, but I just love them. Some nice leaf patterns are being selected through breeding.

I was going to post something along the lines of what Roberta posted. Each of you who posted photos - were those photos you yourselves took? If not, those are copyright violations.
You can post a link to the original Web site where people can go look at the photo. You need to get permission from the original photographer, and perhaps also the Web site owner, to post other people's photos here.

wow, good to know about the photos! i may have violated that once or twice now that i think about it.
anyways, i just wanted to chime in on this thread since i have been trying to get some weird ones for the terrarium, and have a couple that i find interesting. without pics for now, my favorites so far are
dendrophylax lindenii
dendrobium wassellii
chiloschista pusilla
dendrobium tetragonum gigantea
also i have a paph vinicolor at the bottom which is the girls fav, and for sure the most colorful leaves in the tank
ill have to post some pics of them in a few months when they are a bit more established. the ghost orchids have only been in for a couple weeks now, and hopefully they will survive!
oh, and added
holcoglossum kimballianum
cause it’s pretty weird and lives, sort of, on a mount next to the window. one of the first orchids we ordered online and hasn’t done much of anything in our conditions for many months now...

Honestly it never crossed my mind from a social media perspective. I’m certain that as fairly educational forum we are well covered by fair use, but just the same, I’ll circle back and link the photos that aren’t my own back to the original sites to stay above reproach. I’ll be a good habit anyhow. Thanks.
