These phals are very dry. This indicates either they are getting watered too little or they don't have enough functioning roots to absorb water.
I tend to agree with Camille that it is a stress response, not from too much sun but too little hydration.
Notice all the wrinkled leaves. That would be my main concern, the purple patches will not be a life or death matter and should disappear on new growth if the phals can recover in time.
I should add though, having recovered a handful of rootless phals - it isn't fun and it takes a couple of years for a phal to regrow a set of roots that can sustain it.
Once it has roots you can water it once a week and it will have the roots to store that water. But before then it is far more annoying to keep them alive.

SF, if you see the 1st post, this is actually a follow-up of those phals almost dead, I've been posting recovering update, but the leaves have not comeback to be stiff enough.

I have a " misting" system that keep the humidity up, but I think you right about watering everyday until better established

It is much more shaded now than before (even my seedlings are out; FYI), the exaggeratedly dark spots have only been in this one, and I think @Camilla is right that as soon as they are recovering, they also stain even more, it happened to my dark pigmentation recoveries even in fake light.
As for the flowered little one (the second in the picture), I place it in my terrarium, since it has suffered much more, it does not have many roots and since it has mini-flowers it will decorate and will have much more humidity.
THANK YOU, I think you are all right and I'll be back with a pic in a few days to see if it had improve.

I remember one of the first seedling I grew was a dendrobium hybrid that could handle a lot of sun.
So there I was with my 1 inch seedling giving it the sun this one should be able to handle.
Leaves turned bright red. Ok can't handle that much..
Next year it had doubled up, I tried giving it more light, the leaves changed color.
I just concluded it didn't need as much sun as I thought.
Third year, the newest cane grows bigger than previous canes and looks flowering ready, I try upping the light again and surprise the plant can take it!
So the older the plants get the more light they can handle.
But I have discovered a similar thing with low light phals, the more roots they have - generally the more sun they can handle. Not that it will help with your recovery much there but just saying rootless phals cannot tolerate as much sun as one with lots of roots.

hey Sade,
don't want to hijack your thread but not worth making my own so I will just tag one of my rescues on here.
This phal is one of those plants that I bought over 2 years ago and in that time it has steadily gone downhill.
Till it only had one remainig leaf left.
This is when I decided to intervene. Ok so I should have intervened when I first got it I know but I wasn't as experienced with slow spreading rot back then.
Something has slowly been affecting the stem of this phal ever since I got it. The plant has survived for 2+ years but eventually the infection was going to take the final roots so I cut off the mush at the base leaving only one very bad looking leaf and no crown and a tiny root, I disinfected and potted in in a high humidity pot.
I honestly had already written this one off but you never know.
To my utter surprise it has sprouted a little crown leaf and not just 1 but 2 new roots!
Look at the state of it lol, I don't think it will make it but it is trying and giving it its best for the first time in years.

To patiently wait 4 years lol.
No special treatment really. It will take as long as a seedling to recover if it does.
I have it in a pot filled with pumice, that keeps it humid. It has to do all the hard work now.
I just wish I had shown a progression of this one. I think it had 4 leaves when I bought it. I had to cut a lot of stem away now, basically if I saw any black I kept cutting.
I sealed the wound with a home remedy another grower told me about. It acts like a plant sealant. I use this over cinnamon as it kills all bacteria and fungus. That's the purple stuff but mainly because I am too cheap to buy a proper systemic copper treatment like phyton. It seems to have worked at least.

Well, if it helps to make you feel better, I have quite a few in the hospital ER
These are my 1-year recovery. Some of them were 1 Crown and one leaf. I move them to bark and sphagnum after getting 3-4 roots developing, before that I do like you; let it seat on top of something humid but not buried in medium.

I'm too old to buy seedlings, so I wouldn't know. The only thing I'm dangerous with, I still start my tomatoes from seed still buy my bananas green.
