When you just can’t find a plant....is okay to ask for help?
From commercial orchid folk especially???
For example. If I am looking for a plant and I email a grower and they have none is It okay to ask them if they know wheee you might look??
I don’t like to be rude but they are in a much better position to be connected to role with specialties or connections to other resources.
Thanks

I thought you meant somewhere in your own collection. I did that just this morning. Took about 10 minutes to find the thing.

It sure is ok DC. If a particular plant is already very hard to find or to acquire, then scouting in this way at least can lift the chances of finding and/or acquiring it. Some growers can be very nice and very helpful - going out of their way to help if they have connections.
I have encountered very good people like that before. A very friendly and genuine approach can lead to good things. There will certainly be other people we meet that genuinely can't help - which is expected. But doing what you can to lift chances of finding what you're looking for - such as asking ------ is good. Otherwise, some opportunity could be lost somehow.

I don't think it's rude to ask. You might have better luck posing the question to the interwebs though.

Isn't that every grower's ultimate goal?
DC, what are you looking for?
Hopefully you can find the plant, but sometimes you have to contact foreign growers.
E.G. Phal Liodoro is common here but people in the US seem to have troubles finding it.

Bulb beccarii….i saw that post and i went down a wormhole of research. it has everything i love in an orchid, extremely odd morphology, requires a weird and "project" type mount or setup, wants to get huge and is in some way repulsive LOL
i think you may be right but with shows on hold i am not up for the import headache...thanks for the thoughts guys.
if you happen to have any leads on the plant ….

Contact Edgar Stehli of Windswept in Time Orchids. He is really into Bulbophyllum and if he doesn't have it, he might know who does.
