Can I safely and effectively add kelpmax to my regular formula? Male
Default Can I safely and effectively add kelpmax to my regular formula?

Hello all,

I had a question about using kelpmax. It says on the bottle to use once a month at 1 tbs per gallon but I prefer not to have to spill out my mixer once a month to put in a different formula.

Because I am lazy, I want to know if I could get the same positive outcomes if I add it to the formula in my mixer which I use every time I water? If this is fine, what strength would I use it at (considering I water 1-2 times per week)?

Back at the beginning of the year there was a discussion about weekly/frequent application of Kelpmax that you may find interesting.

KelpMax overdosing and chronic exposure?

I personally would be hesitant to use it so frequently, not because of potential negative side effects, but because it is not a cheap product.

Besides the potential problems with overuse if used at full strength that frequently, cutting the concentration enough to match the monthly dosage renders it more-or-less useless. At half the recommended dose, it will do nothing.

Then there is the longevity of premixed solutions to consider, as once mixed with water or fertilizer solutions, it should be used within a day or two.

Yeah, I stopped overdosing. I found that while it did no harm, the plants either werent affected or kept putting energy into making new basals and I didnt want new basals, I wanted more vigorous mom plants.

I did switch from KM to House and Garden Algen Extract. I use 2 ml per gallon every watering as per directions.
