Excited about my new purchase

I'm just really excited about this, so I just want to share it.

First of all fortunately this Covid thing has been going down here for the past months and more and more things are starting to open up. So I was able to visit a local orchid nursery, not too far from where I live. Of course precautions had to be taken, one needs to be in good health and also I could only come with an appointment. So they keep the number of visitors down.

Anyway so I have a Paphiopedilum Pinocchio that I've had for years, it's grown and grown many times over. I split it into 4 pots. Turns out that the orchid nursery bought 3 of them. They told me they wouldn't buy just any type of orchid from a private person, but it had to be something they are interested in and it turns out they thought mine were in good condition. (I've still got one pot left at home, with several growths on it.) So they said they'd give me 5 euros for each, and I'd get that as a discount for anything I'd buy.

So I got three new orchids. The interesting thing is that by the time I was about to pay, the guy made a miscalculation. So he only charged me 10 euros. I did point it out, but he said... it's ok... you got lucky this time. I can't believe I got these 3 orchids for 10 euros in total!

So it's a Phalaenopsis Schilleriana, and the other one is Hieroglyphica, and the last one is a Paphiopedilum Callosum.

The Hieroglyphica has two flower stems... I'm so excited! Can't wait to see those flowers.

And the Paph also has a flower on the way.

The Schilleriana is growing a new leaf. Also regarding this one I was wondering, could it be that this is a young plant? I'm asking because it is just so small compared to my regular full grown Phalaenopsis. I'm adding a picture for comparison, where it's next to a regular one.

Anyway I'm assuming if it's young it will probably take a while before that one flowers. But it's got beautiful leaves.

Nice plants, and nice story! You got quite a deal for those 3 plants. I had no idea that commercial vendors would buy plants from us hobbyists. Though one of those Paphs could have had a great home with me, just saying.

I think I recognize the labels as belonging to Orchidz, if I'm not mistaken. I like that vendor and even though the plants are often young/small, the quality is outstanding. As to that schilleriana, while it certainly isn't a full grown plant yet, from my experience I learned that they can bloom off of rather small looking plants, and I'd guess that yours is very likely close to blooming size. Mine was about that size when I got it (I think it's from Orchidz), and it put out a spike the following flowering season. It was a small spike with only a few flowers, but not bad for such a small plant! I'm not saying yours will flower coming season, but with good care there's a fair chance.

Yes, funny you guessed it right. It is orchidz.nl . Though they made it clear that it isn't common that they buy orchids from private persons like me. They did mention that it had to be a type of orchid that they already deal with. And if you check on their website they do sell Paphiopedilum Pinocchio's. I knew that I had seen at least one in their nursury some time ago.

That said, they were not interested in my Brassia Eternal Wind. They don't have any Brassias or sell them. So if you're interested I've got one for you.

The Brassia was also really big, I had to split it up.

And yeah, thanks good to know about the Schilleriana.

Was it 'really' a miscalculation? Or he was basically saying 'thanks a heap' for the three times Pinocchio!

My Phal schilleriana was quite small when i got it, supposedly three years from blooming, and it bloomed for the first time just a few months after I got it. Only 4 flowers, but they were nice. So yes, schilleriana can bloom even when pretty young. It will get much bigger than that, tho. They can actually get quite large. For some reason, I can never get mine to hold on to more than 3 or 4 leaves at a time, and I've heard other people say that about theirs. Don't know what that's about, but mine is healthy all the same and blooms every year, but yeah I guess it is common for them to bloom when very small.

Schilleriana also in the wild grows on tree trunks parallel to the trunk, perpendicular to the forest floor, so it has a tendency to try to climb out of the pot. Some people just let it grow however it wants, but I set might back upright every time I repot, because I think it makes the flowers present better. Just another FYI to keep in mind.
