mine went teats up months back...i had it mounted upside down on the special phal rack and it was given optimum care but it did not care...it dropped all the leaves at once and the stem was as dry as a stick....???
i am looking for a larger one to try again one day...more than one fan would give me a lot more confidence it can take a punch or two

Like clawhammer says orchids should be able to handle heavy rains but with some I find it just sparks an infection in the stem and that just cannot be remedied.
Orchids can also go into a sort of state of hybernation, when I first buy orchids I need to see if they are growing or not first. If they are growing it is 10x easier to look after them but if they are not growing then getting the stem wet can be a death sentence.
Ps: great looking plant claw

Yeah. This one was growing when I got it. Suffered a slight setback, then the roots you see here are new ones. It was doing fine until I moved it... then went down the crapper in a week's time. Moving it was likely a bad decision, with not enough thought given about the rest of what it needed other than water. Blech. Yet another lesson learned.

I'll join in. I was part of the original podangis shopping frenzy last year. I got mine last June. Here it is today.

It gets misted everyday and lives in a Wardian case with its friends and a small fan. It's actually a miracle that it's still alive.

Looks like J&L has a couple in stock if anyone is interested in a replacement or jumping on the bandwagon. Hopefully mine ships soon

This Podangis dactyloceras I have had for several years - and almost lost it when I had it in a plastic basket with sphagnum. You can see an old leaf with nasty black spots. Last year, when this thread started, I took it out of the basket and mounted it with just a little sphag. So it dries quite fast. I missed most of the flowers while I was away for about 10 days but there were 3 or 4 spikes when I left... Here is what I did catch. Just a few flowers still open. But the new leaves look really good and clean. So I have high hopes for it.

{{sigh}} Podangis envy here. Mine also developed some crown rot, and I pitched it. I need to get some sort of small Wardian case or something going if I'm gonna get into these little guys. Contemplating...

Podangis dactyloceras 2 years later
This was a feeding frenzy... Now, a couple of years have passed, so here is an update on my plants.
The one that I bought at the time of the frenzy is blooming! Still some more flowers to open, but enough to be respectable. Growing nice roots too. It is still a small plant, my hand for scale.
The second plant (last 2 photos) is one that I was already growing. In response to some of the discussion I took it out of a basket where it was not doing so well, and mounted it. I don't see spikes on it yet, but figure they will be along eventually. But look at the beautiful new roots. The old ones (mostly on the mount) still look good, the new ones seem to be happier running free. The oldest surviving leaves have some wrinkles (so attached roots at the time of their formation weren't doing such a good job) but the new leaves (that go with those new roots) are plump and firm.
It doesn't seem to matter whether mounting upward or downward. But at least for me, mounting is the way to go. Both grow in the greenhouse. Minimum winter night temperature 58-60 deg F (14-15 deg C), quite humid.

Doing great Roberta!
Mine recently had a slight setback due to some moss overgrowth but is still coming along nicely.
It has a new growth that is about the size of my OG fan and the OG fan is about 4.5"
No blooms yet this year
