Well, crap. I just picked up my podangis to check it out (it's hanging, mounted). Since last week, it's lost four leaves, and the roots are rotted at the base of plant. Still green roots on end. I had moved it to a different spot last week, as it wasn't getting hit by misters well and moss was dry. So much for movement. Grrrrr.

Haven't decided whether it's worth rehab or not. Probably should at least try. BoooHoooHooooo!!

If there is green there is hope... I vote for rehab. Cost is low, maybe not great odds but if it succeeds very rewarding.

A little update on mine. I still have the one from Gold County but I also got a second one from H&R shortly after that one came in. Figured I was already placing an order, they had it on the list, so why not? Lol. The H&R one had two growths that sort of fell apart when I pulled it out of the pot so now I have three that are all mounted but growing in different conditions for the past year. They are all out in my shade house and get the same summer temps. Lost a couple of lower leaves on each when they were initially mounted, but no issues since

Podangis #1- has made a couple of leaves, 5 spikes (a little beat up from some ultra heavy rains over the last week),no new growths, absolutely no new roots in the past fricken year. Looking no more, but no less, dehydrated than it did last year. This one is in medium light, hanging right off of a Dendrobium pot, gets a little bit of shading from plants overhead, left outside all summer (100°+F) and down to around 45-50°F in the winter. Watered a little less when it was chilly.

Podangis #2- made a leaf or two, one spike, a few roots, looks like it’s trying to put out two side growths. Looks good. Probably the best looking of the three despite the low amount of spikes. This one is being kept right under my Phal. schilleriana’s, warm to hot, no less than 60°f. Gets small amounts of bright dappled light for short periods of time but is otherwise in deep shade for much of the day.

Podangis #3- a couple of leaves, 2 roots, no spikes, no sign of any side growths. Growing this one bright, up by my Cattleyas with minimal shading from other orchids overhead. Kept this one above 60°F in the winter.

My update... lost the one that I got from Gold Country. I tried to grow it cooler (outside), didn't work. So not doing that again. A larger one that I have had for a few years but remounted when this all started, is in spike (looking a LOT better since I got it out of medium and mounted it). Will update when it blooms, looking good (in the GH). In the interim, after losing the Gold Country one I made myself feel better by treating myself to a new one from Tarzane Group when I saw one advertised (also staying in the GH) Small plant, have only had it for about 6 months but so far looking good. The ones that are doing well (in GH) dry out after watering. That seems to be important.

New picture... Frankly, it looks very similar to when I first received it, minus a few leaves now. So basically since 11/2020 it's just been sitting around. Note the dried roots where it meets the plant. Those were black yesterday, but it's been in dryout mode since I found it after moving to a different spot under misters with a lot less fan hitting it.

I'm going to put it on death watch in a vase on my desk and give it a shot of Kelpmax tomorrow. Want it to dry out a bit more. Jonathan was right... wet roots over a short period of time without drying out is a kiss toward death.

I have to say it, mine is thriving. It really likes my indoor growing conditions. It gets watered 3-5 times a day, so I think these guys like it wet.

Mine has doubled in size, bloomed twice, and started a new fan. It has grown 4 new roots, 3-6" each root.

I have high humidity too. 70-85% throughout the day, average about 80%

waterwitchin, the same has happened to me and I blame the state of the plant more than anything if it helps.

Like clawhammer says orchids should be able to handle heavy rains but with some I find it just sparks an infection in the stem and that just cannot be remedied.

Orchids can also go into a sort of state of hybernation, when I first buy orchids I need to see if they are growing or not first. If they are growing it is 10x easier to look after them but if they are not growing then getting the stem wet can be a death sentence.
