Mature/flowering basal kieki. Best to detach?
Default Mature/flowering basal kieki. Best to detach?

So a Kroger phal I got about 5 years ago developed a basal keiki maybe 3 years ago. I can't remember. It has grown to about the same size as the mother plant. And it flowered last year. I desperately needed to repot them so I did that last week (way too late in season I know&#128547. I sat there debating on separating them or maybe putting in them in two separate pots. But I decided to keep them together since they seemed nice and cozy with each other.

Now I wonder if that was the wrong choice. My question. Can keeping them together prevent them from reaching their potential? Double inflourescence? I'm not 100% sure but I think the mother plant had a double originally. But I know for sure that each last year only sent out one inflourescence.

Just some ponderings😁

I think keeping together was the very right thing to do. One strong plant grows and blooms a lot better than several small weak ones. Since each of those growths can produce flowers, you have the potential for a really spectacular plant. Doesn't inhibit their potential, probably enhances it .

Phals don't seem to care when they're repotted, since they are pretty much growing all the time, so no worries there either.

Roberta- Thanks for the info. I almost cut the connection between and put them in the same pot. I would love if another basal keiki would form to balance the look of it! Ha

Always better to solicit opinions before cutting, irrelevant after... Glad you didn't cut!
