That's right. Reliability is important on various fronts. My solenoid micro-drip spray system for outdoor use is great. But to get the reliability right up, good solid components needed. And got to make sure the drips and/or sprays are solidly anchored.

I have no plans for vacations, and seldom take one that goes more than a week, if that long. But I do always dream of a European vacation over a month in the summer, and something like this... well, it could keep things alive, LOL. I use about 5 gallons a week, this thing holds 6, sounds like a match! Thanks so much for the link

Thank you all for your help and suggestions!!
I gave up on the cone idea, I had assumed that they were readily available in garden centers like they are in france, but apparently not. And I just don't have time to test any system before leaving on Sunday.
I did manage to arrange for someone to stop by and water the orchids when she gets back from her vacation, at the end of my 2nd week away. 2 weeks is a lot less scary, so I'll try the really damp sphagnum in a bucket idea for the 2 Catts! Thanks for the tip.

How many AAA batteries? Do these batteries power a battery-operated pump?

Yes, pump use only batteries power. 4 AAA batteries in each pump. 1 pump for 10 plants. I use 3 pumps and now they're not enough.

Nice! And thanks!
Got photos of that particular kind of pump? I wouldn't have expected that a battery operated pump would be capable of pumping water through pipes with that sort of diameter like that.
Can this pump transfer the water from the storage tank even when the tubes are not primed with water?
