I have been organising ornimental fish collecting trips to Southeastern Peru (Madre de Dios/Cusco regions) for afew years and I am currently researching Orchids in the region. The region is one of the most bio diverse in South America and orchids are no exception. I have so far mad three orchid expeditions, recording the habitst data of the flowering species I have found and have so far self published two small volumes covering the flowering species found in November/December and Frbruary. The current project are thos species found flowering in September. I have one trip schduled for March 2020 and will be arranging further trips in June and October 2020. If anyone is interested in joining me, or would like further details please get in touch. Ian

dnatural1,

David Haelterman, formerly of Belgium, now lives in Cali, Columbia. He's an agronomist and environmental advisor mainly interested in agroecology and permaculture. He also is a nature tourism guide. David is one of the speakers at next year's Mid America Orchid Conference which our orchid society will be hosting in February. I'm not sure how to contact David, but try contacting our society president, Eric Sauer, eric@rvorchids.com and or the Mid America Orchid Conference.

Eric is also someone you could contact as he specializes in South American orchids.

Hi SpclK,

Thank very much for that contact - I will contact Eric and David Haelterman. My initial aim was to tour Colombia to both see the native orchids in-situ and also to get an overall view of the country (cultural and natural assets). Unfortunately I did not find anyone on the ground that knows the place and that could give advice so I put the Colombian plan on hold and switched to doing a tour with Ecuagenera in May. As I love South America I'll be revisiting the idea especially now that I have some good leads. Thanks again.
