Unforgiven
This board/forum really does needs some proper adjustments made to it's system for appropriate usage.
As far as the time lapse issue, the “in clock mode” stall and the lack of memory in data entry it remains to be almost unbearable.
I have now spent the last four hours trying to update my User CP “Manage Orchids” file unsuccessfully!

I would never use a forum source to keep track of and log my collection data. Mainly because any forum could be dissolved/dropped, without notice, bu the owner (s) and all that work would be lost.
I've read where there are apps you can use but i have no experience with them. A really simple solution...and one that you have complete control over, would to create a spreadsheet file on your computer. You could then make it as simple or as detailed as you see fit. Personally, i keep a list of orchids so i know what i have and i don't accidentally duplicate plants...thats it. Some people choose to keep much more complicated and detailed records. Either way...it's all on your computer and always at your fingertips. Even better...if you're familiar with google docs/drive or similar...use that platform and you can access your file from anywhere. I keep my list saved to Drive and it's come in handy when I've been at orchid shows.
Another option, if you don't mind spending the money, is Orchid Wiz. I have it and love it for culture info but i dont use it to store my collection data.

I suspect if we all move/create another forum it wouldn't matter. After so many complaints without any reaction we'd better not expect any changes.

I can't imagine that anyone would go to the effort and expense of starting a forum like OB these days. A FB group would be far more sensible.

There are plenty of site that provide free forums. The only problem (for me it's not a problem at all) are the advertisements.
There's also the issue of storing photos and such...well, I store all my photos and orchid data organized in my disk and the photos I post here are in photobucket.
So, I can see no real problem...but that's just me, obviously.

I have had orchids for over 40 years, but I would swear off them forever long before I would ever join a FB group.

FB is not an option for me also.
In spite of all the care I take, I already feel my self controled by my phone and Google+. Plus, all the pictures posted there become FB property and not yourself anymore.

I have little interest in FB. If this site goes down, there are other orchid and plant forums.
For all the problems with this site, it is at least still here which is very nice. I do worry whether Marty is okay and, if he is, I wish he would pop in and let us know. He has always been a very decent fellow and that is why I am concerned that no one can reach him. He had some health issues before but it is also possible that he has simply become very busy. Who knows? I do appreciate that the forum has not yet been shut down.
I do the same as Katrina. I make a list of all the orchids and plants that I grow. If I lose the tag, I can still identify the orchid by looking at my list. A list on the PC can be backed up to an external drive or two and then there are no worries that it will be lost (if no external drive, you can email it to yourself as a back up).
