How to use smilies
To put smilies in your message, click the grey Go Advanced button below the message entry box. You will see a few in a box to the right of the message entry box. But there are more!
The Post Icons box below the Advanced message box is not what you want for smilies. That is for icons to appear on the left side of the thread listing. This isn't what you want for smilies in your message. As far as I know, you can only use one icon for your message, but you can completely fill it with smilies.
If you click on the [More] at the bottom of the smilies box, a new small window will open up with many more. This window pops up somewhere on your desktop. On your mobile phone it opens a new tab. On my desktop, this is a relatively small window. I find it easiest to maximize this window. If you click back in the message writing box while this extra smilies window is opening, the smilies window will hide behind other windows on your desktop, so you might need to go searching. On your phone, you switch between tabs to get from the smilies to the message entry box.
Select one or more by clicking on them. Now you can close this extra window or tab. You will be looking at your message with a word or so between a pair of colons. That tells the software to display that smilie at that location in your message.
Most of the time, when you click the smilie, the code to add it is inserted into your message where the writing cursor is, but sometimes it gets inserted at the very top of the message window. You can use cut and paste to move the smilie code to where you want it in your message, or you can just type the smilie code (colon-word-colon) where you want it. I would guess some of the frequent smilie addicts here can type their favorites in their sleep.
Note! There are errors in the smilie insertion box. Some of the code is missing one of the colons. Sometimes they don't display properly. If this happens, just type a colon at the end of the smilie word.
