Since I got sucked up into this confounded technology I learned to except slow connection and crashing/stuck websites.
But that was 25 years ago.

Now a-days I experience (and pay for) the high speed connectivity and enjoy stable, easy-access websites.

I was a moderator on an aquarium site and know about 'growing pains' but I never experienced or got reports similar to these issues.
That site had, and still has, a huge database of knowledge and a long and active history too.

It took 40 minutes and 5 attempts to get the site up just so I could log in here this afternoon.
I posted a short reply before coming to this discussion, and that took 2 minutes 5 seconds before my reply posted.

I have those new 20 orchids I want to share pictures of here, and a few I want to ask some help about.

I think this is an AWESOME site, full of knowledge and knowledgeable members.
It's just a real PITA to navigate around in.

An honestly, that could be a problem for new members...to the point where they might seek out other sources and sites for orchid information and help.

Just saying

WOW, that is crazy. I never have had to re-log in. Do you check, "keep me logged in"? Also the fastest way to get on the site is to use the links in your email when notified about a reply to a thread. It takes me right there really fast.

Really?
I haven't seen that option on a website in about 20 years. Didn't know that was something that a member could 'check' on here.

There are times that I will remain logged in for more then an hour...until I've completed the business I logged in for.

More times, I get kicked off in 5 minutes or less.

I used to do this...but I got spammed sooo badly I lost my very 1st email account (which I'd love to get back), and 2 more accounts since.

I presently work with 2 separate email accounts in case I get site-spammed again.

p.s.: my previous post, #11 here...took 4 minutes and 12 seconds once I hit 'submit' before it posted...

All very strange. I never had delays like that. And when I signed up to be a supporting member, the delay issues didn't change, so I don't think supporters get special treatment.

What do you mean, spammed? I get a lot of messages from OB notifying me of replies to threads I'm following, but almost no spam in my Gmail account. I generally use separate E-mail accounts for different things I do online so I don't get notified of hobby stuff on the business E-mail account.

This site was once always quite fast. It is only 'lately' that the lag times have started. I also get logged out. Sometimes there are a bunch of posts I mean to check (like posts from newly joined members, people asking for help and people showing off their blooms) and I just don't have much time and cannot wait. :|

It's been slow for me since June 2015 when I joined.

I often find that if the page is slow in loading, I can click out to another site entirely and then come back in, and the page is then available quickly.

I have never been kicked off the site when I was browsing. I am using Firefox on a Macbook, for what it is worth. And I have been a supporter and didn't notice any changes in speed of connection.

That's what I do. I am using Chrome. Internet explorer is too slow, Chrome is much faster on everything.

I also can not submit a new thread, says my number of "tags" exceeds the limit by 20! Trying to post a picture of my Pleurothallis luctuosa that is ready to explode with blooms. Frustrated

I have never had a problem with getting logged off while I am on and using Orchid Board. That could have something to do with either your browser settings or how you set up your account on Orchid Board. I recently did send a note to Marty, the creator of this site, telling him of the slow and timeout problems. I didn't hear back. I do suspect it is due to the fact that paying for a more expensive server is prohibitive. It takes $$ to keep something like this running and when there are many people on at the same time it will eat a lot of bandwidth. I can send another note to him, but I think it is what it is, for now. He did upgrade a while back but I forget when that was.

I have heard a few people with this problem a while back and yet I never have that issue. I think I remember someone suggesting not to preview the post before posting it.

I will try and contact an administrator with these concerns.
