Default Zombie threads

On some boards I use the folks feel that if a thread is more than a few months old it shouldn't be revived or added to.

Other boards say always search first and if you find something add onto that one.

What is the culture here? Revive zombies or create new ones?

We prefer you to raise new posts in general.

You can revive old threads when you are making nice comments about someone else's photos of orchids. I do that quite a bit when I find ones I've missed.

But if you are asking a question it's best to start a new thread because often you are less likely to get answers on an old thread.

We don't mind the same questions being asked multiple times because everyone's conditions vary.

I actually mention some of that in my 'Guidlines' post here.

Really our preference is all about members getting the attention they need for their questions, pictures or whatever they are posting. We don't mind old posts being revived, it's just experience has shown that people get very few responses when they do that.

Thanks. Yes this seems like a really friendly board and I'm so excited to find like minded folks.

I was last into orchids in the 90s -- y'know before the internet was big and all -- and it was a very different kind of thing.

Yeah, for me on the other hand Orchid Board has a lot to do with me getting into orchids. Had one, came here looking for help and saw all the beautiful pictures and then ended up with loads

There are SO MANY old threads here it would be a full-time job to keep them going. The method used here seems to work really well, I think.

Some of the old threads have very helpful information and glad they pull up during a search.

Yes, sometimes it's good. That's why we tend to be relaxed either way.
