Rules For Asking Questions AboutCommercial Sites?
Hello,
I just wanted to ask what the forum stance was on posting requests for information about vendors not affiliated with this site. I know a lot of forums don't like members posting about commercial sites, and one non-orchid forum I belong to has a zero-tolerance stance on so-called naming and shaming prohibiting members from posting about negative experiences with vendors, even when they have the proof to validate their claims.
I was considering ordering from a German vendor, but would have appreciated some feedback from people who may have used the same site, however, I don't want to violate forum etiquette if such posts are frowned upon. So, would a request for customer feedback be acceptable or not?
Kindest regards,
Alex

If you go to the main forum page and scroll down to the vBclassified section there's a section called vendor feedback. People post queries about vendors they're considering ordering from as well as positive and negative experiences they've had with different commercial vendors

I scrolled down the forum menu before I posted, and totally missed that section, rather embarrassing. Anyway, thank you for clearing that up for me.
Kindest regards,
Alex

Np, I think I was a member for like a year before I even realized that there was more to the forum than just the first section on "orchid discussions". Every day is a learning experience <3
And you shouldn't be embarrassed for making sure you didn't do the wrong thing, I think it's awesome that you asked first to make sure

Yeah, best place to ask is Vendor Feedback section.
We have a policy that members with less than 100 posts should not post negative feedback about commercial vendors. This is just to protect vendors from malicious/unfair posts made by someone who has only joined the forum to slam them.

However anyone can ask for others to give their opinions and it's really good to discuss experiences with various vendors to help newbies to the hobby to know who is good to buy from
We are also happy for you to mention in other threads/posts a vendor you have bought from if it's relevant to the conversation. Advertising in the main forums is not allowed (we have a classifieds area for that) and if you are affiliated with a vendor we like you to make sure that's clear in posts you make about them.
